No. 22 Ohio State Sweeps Rutgers On the Road, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 22nd-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team swept Rutgers, 7-0, Friday afternoon in its first of three road matches this weekend. After moving indoors to the East Brunswick Racquet Club in East Brunswick, N.J., because of inclement weather, the Buckeyes and Scarlet Knights squared off in their first match as league opponents. The Buckeyes emerged with their first sweep in conference competition to improve to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in B1G outings this spring.
Ohio State earned the doubles point behind wins on courts one and three. The 24th-ranked sophomore duo of Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis blanked Gina Li and Lindsay Balsamo, 8-0. The freshman tandem of Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed claimed their first doubles win as a pair with an 8-2 victory vs. Farris Cunningham and Lee Levy on court two. Ferny Angeles Paz and Miho Kowase did not complete play on court two.
The Buckeye momentum continued into singles play as the Buckeyes claimed all singles matches in straight sets. Sanford collected her fifth win on court one with a 6-4, 6-3 victory vs. Li, while De Santis downed Chloe Lee, 6-0, 6-1. Angeles Paz extended her win streak to four conference singles wins as she defeated Balsamo, 6-3, 6-1, on court three. Kowase collected her 10th singles win of the spring as she posted a 6-2, 6-1 triumph vs. Mariam Zein. Sneed bounced back from last week’s loss with a 6-0, 6-1, victory vs. Cunningham on court five, while junior Grainne O’Neill rounded out the Buckeye lineup and win with a 6-0, 6-2, victory vs. Levy on court six.
Up next, the Buckeyes will continue competition Sunday, taking on No. 47 Maryland at noon in College Park and UMBC at 4:30 p.m. in Baltimore.
