Sykes, Ehimwenman Star on Day One at Meyo – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Seniors Chesna Sykes and Abie Ehimwenman starred for the Ohio State track and field team Friday evening on the first day of competition at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.
Sykes equaled her personal best in the 60-meter dash semifinals, crossing the finish line in a first-place overall time of 7.30, the 10th-fastest time in Division I track and field this season and the top performance in the Big Ten. The time ranks fourth overall in school history.
Sykes also led a group of five Buckeye women in the Top 5 of the 200-meter dash final. The Columbus, Ohio, native placed third in a season-best time of 23.91 seconds, the second fastest in the Big Ten this season. Redshirt junior Aisha Cavin was fourth in a season-best 24.00 seconds, followed by sophomore Aaliyah Barnes in fifth in a season-best 24.01.
Ehimwenman was victorious in the long jump, clearing a season-best 6.02 meters (19-9.00), the fourth-best jump in the Big Ten this season and a Top-35 performance nationally. Ehimwenman is the defending Big Ten indoor silver medalist in the event.
Redshirt freshman Donovan Robertson qualified for the 60-meter hurdles finals, finishing second in his semifinal heat and placing fourth overall in a time of 7.87 seconds. Robertson is ranked fifth nationally in the event this season.
A pair of Buckeye weight throwers produced personal-best throws. Sophomore Dylan Dyke heaved a massive PR of 19.57 meters (64-2.50) to finish third overall, while senior Carly Pendleton tossed 17.44 meters (57-2.50) for the women to take seventh.
Other day one highlights:
• Sophomore LaMar Bruton (21.52) and senior Timothy Faust (21.61), finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Both athletes won their respective heats.
• Junior Rebecca Rings finished fifth in the 600-meter run in a personal-best time of 1:31.85.
• Junior Jasmine Glove placed sixth in the high jump with a season-best height of 1.67 meters (5-5.75)
