Buckeyes Complete Stint at Winter Cup – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team competed against some of the top gymnasts in the United States Thursday in preliminary round competition at the 2015 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas.
Senior Drew Moling posted the top finish of the day for the Buckeyes at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, placing 14th in Session I of the competition and 32nd overall with an all-around score of 79.450. Moling’s top finish came on rings, where he tied for 11th with a 14.250 score.
Freshman Alexander Wilson competed in three events, earning a top score of 13.850 and a 21st-place finish on parallel bars. Junior Alex Johnson was featured in four events – he tied for 11th on high bar with a score of 14.250.
“I was happy with the way our guys competed,” head coach Rustam Sharipov said after the meet. “It was a good experience for all three. Drew came within a few points of making all-around finals, and Alex Johnson and Alex Wilson did well on several events. There were some mistakes, but overall I was pleased with their performances.”
Future Buckeye Alec Yoder will compete in Saturday’s final round after placing seventh in Session II and overall with an all-around total of 85.700. Yoder placed in the Top 10 in three events: pommel horse (fourth, 14.950), rings (tie for seventh, 14.550) and high bar (10th, 14.350).
Another Buckeye signee, Tristan Burke, placed 17th in Session I and 37th overall in the all-around with a 78.200 total. His top finish came on vault, where he turned in a 10th-place performance and score of 14.950.
