Grant Weaver was the first Buckeye to complete his individual match, disposing of Michigan’s Chris O’Neill 7 & 6 to give Ohio State a 1-0 edge in the team tally. After handing over the first two holes with a bogey and double bogey, Weaver ripped off seven consecutive winning holes. He then followed a halved hole with two more triumphs to close out O’Neill, 7 & 6.
Tom Swanson of Michigan wrapped up his victory shortly thereafter, downing Tee-k Kelly 4 & 3. The Wolverine captured the opening hole and never trailed in the individual tilt as Michigan tied the team score at 1-1.
The next concluded contest went in favor of Michigan as well. At the top of the lineups, Kyle Mueller took down Ohio State’s Clark Engle, 6 & 5. With eight holes complete, Engle trailed by a lone hole before Mueller heated up to the tune of five straight winning holes and closed the door on Engle.
With one more individual win needed, Michigan’s Andrew Yeager drove in the final nail. His par on the second-to-last hole was good enough to take the hole and put an end to Nick Sparling, 2 & 1.
Boo Timko entered his final hole `all-square’ with Reed Hrynewich, who had stormed back from four down after 12 holes. His come-from-behind effort was halted incomplete though when Timko birdied the 18th to earn a 1UP winner.
