Alex Bayne is entering her junior year on the Ohio State softball team as a utility player. The Manvel, Texas native transferred from Marshall after her freshman year and hit .375 with three homeruns, four doubles and a .688 slugging percentage. Bayne received the Ohio State Sportsmanship award and the inaugural Block “O” award and was also an Ohio State Scholar Athlete last year. This past summer, she gained valuable work experience interning with Bucks Go Pro in the Student-Athlete Support Services Office, which allows her to get closer of her ultimate goal of staying in athletics as a member of a communications staff for a university or professional sports team.
Student Life
- What is the best time of year on campus? For me personally, I enjoy the fall season! The Oval on campus has so many beautiful trees and when they all start to turn, it is just full of color!
- What is your preferred mode of transportation to class? I enjoy using either my car or my bicycle. It usually depends on the weather.
- Have you switched your major? If so, how many times and why and if not, how did you know your major was “the one”? I have changed my major twice (yikes). I went from biochemistry, then marketing, and finally strategic communications. I knew it was the one for me because I enjoy discussing and writing about sports and would love to work for an Athletic Communications department!
- What has been your favorite or most interesting class at OSU? My favorite class at OSU was my Intercultural Communications class.
- If you had to give an incoming student advice, what would it be? Never wish your life away. Some days are going to be harder than others, whether you’re struggling with your sport, academics, or something going on in your personal life. Embrace those moments and know things get better and you’ll have better days. College is a once in a lifetime opportunity that many people do not get to experience and once it’s gone, it’s gone. So enjoy even the toughest of days and try to have a positive outlook instead of wishing they would just end.
Pop Culture

- Do you have any pre-game/match superstitions or rituals? Not usually. I am typically not a superstitious person.
- What is your favorite part about your sport? My favorite part about my sport is that there is no clock. As long as you have one out left in a game, anything is possible!
- What is your favorite athletic memory? Making the Ohio State softball team is by far my favorite athletic memory. It changed my life for the better!
Food
- What is the best meal you have ever eaten, and where did you get it from/who made it? I am bias, but anything my mother makes is the best meal I have ever eaten!
