Buckeyes Set for UT Fall Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — This weekend, the Ohio State women’s tennis team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the UT Fall Invite hosted by the Tennessee Volunteers. Play begins each day with two teams meeting in singles, followed by all four teams playing doubles, with the remaining teams closing out the day with singles.
Joining the Buckeyes and Volunteers are Wake Forest and Arizona State. Ohio State will take on Wake Forest in singles at 1 p.m. Friday and in doubles at noon Sunday, will go up against Arizona State in singles at 10 a.m. Sunday and doubles at 3 p.m. Friday and will face Tennessee in both singles (10 a.m.) and doubles (noon) Saturday.
Players slated to compete for the Buckeyes this weekend include seniors Grainne O’Neill and Nicole Flower, juniors Miho Kowase, Sandy Niehaus and Ferny Angeles Paz, sophomore Olivia Sneed and freshman Andrea Ballinger.

In Tennessee Last Year
This marks the Buckeyes’ fourth time playing in Tennessee’s fall dual-match style tournament. At the UT Fall Invite last season, Ohio State was a combined 13-2 in singles and 5-2 in doubles, including two singles sweeps of Kentucky and Eastern Tennessee.
Spring Preview
This weekend is a preview of two of the Buckeyes’ matches this spring. Ohio State will take on Tennessee in Columbus Feb. 20 and will host Arizona State Feb. 28. Last year, the Buckeyes posted a 4-3 victory at Arizona State Feb. 1 and a 7-0 win at Tennessee Feb. 13.
Last Time Out
Ohio State is coming off an outstanding performance at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. The doubles tandem of Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford claimed the first regional title in program history, defeating teammates Ferny Angeles Paz and Sandy Niehaus in the championship match. Kowase and Sanford clinched a berth in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 12-15 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. In singles, Angeles Paz and Niehaus advanced to the quarterfinals to lead the way for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes are scheduled to play in the Jack Kramer Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif., Nov. 5-8, followed by Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford heading to New York for the ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 12-15.
