COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University women’s volleyball program seized two Big Ten weekly awards on Monday (Oct. 12) as Taylor Hughes and Audra Appold were recognized as the conference’s Setter of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively. The freshmen duo pushed No. 9 Ohio State to a pair of B1G road victories, defeating Northwestern and No. 13 Illinois over the weekend.
Hughes guided the offense to a .301 team attacking efficiency and averaged 12.14 assists per set. She was a major factor defensively as well, putting up 1.14 blocks/set and 1.00 digs/set. Hughes dished out a career high 52 assists in Ohio State’s four-set triumph over Illinois inside Huff Hall. She added five kills, five blocks and four digs against the Illini.
Appold, meanwhile, maintains her status as the Big Ten’s best weekly freshman after laying claim to the same laurel last week with a dominating performance against then-No. 4 Nebraska. Appold was named the Big Ten’s co-Player of the Week seven days ago as well. For this week, she continued her reign as Ohio State’s top offensive weapon. Appold averaged 5.00 kills per set, posting 17 or more kills in both road wins. Defensively, Appold dug 3.57 balls per set.
Ohio State now owns six B1G weekly awards through seven weeks of the 2015 season:

Taylor Hughes – Setter of the Week (Oct. 12)
