Simmons, DMRs, Highlight Opening Day in Kentucky – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team opened competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky., Friday afternoon.
Highlights from day one in Kentucky for the Buckeyes:
• Competing in her second meet in the Scarlet and Gray, freshman Allyson Simmons, the Ohio high school all-division record holder in the pole vault, posted the second-best mark in school indoor history in the event by clearing 3.73 meters (12-2.75).
• The women’s distance medley team – senior Katie Borchers, senior Janel Olberding, junior Rebecca Rings and junior Tammy Berger – combined for an eighth-place time of 11:32.13 in a highly competitive race, the fourth-fastest time in school history. The Top-10 times posted at the meet are the 10 best in Division I so far this season.
• The men’s distance medley team – sophomore Jared Fleming, junior Deshawn Marshall, sophomore Anthony Johnson and junior Steven Weaver – equaled the women with an eighth-place time of 9:54.89. Seven of the Top-10 times in Division I this season were recorded in the race, with the Buckeyes’ relay ranking eighth overall.
• Freshman Zack Bazile continued an impressive start to his college career, claiming seventh place in the long jump at 7.19 meters (23-7.25).
• Ohio State’s weight throwers enjoyed a productive evening. Sophomore Aaron Zedella and senior Carly Pendleton placed eighth in their respective competitions. Zedella turned in a throw of 18.72 meters (61-5.00), while Pendleton finished just shy of a personal best in the event with a mark of 17.23 meters (56-6.50). In addition, sophomore Dylan Dyke placed 10th in the men’s competition at 18.05 meters (59-2.75).
