COLUMBUS, Ohio – Taylor Sandbothe was selected as the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week today (Sept. 8). Sandbothe shares the weekly accolade with Wisconsin’s Taylor Morey.
Sandbothe averaged 2.00 blocks per set as Ohio State laid claim to the Sports Imports D.C. Koehl Classic trophy. The sophomore middle blocker was a force throughout the entire weekend, recording no less than six blocks and averaging at least 1.5 per set in all three Buckeye victories. Sandbothe started it off with seven swats in a sweep over Auburn. She then rejected nine (1s, 8a) versus FGCU and six (1s, 5a) versus Southern Illinois. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native chipped in four digs and 34 kills as well.
It marks the third B1G weekly recognition for Sandbothe, twice being named the conference’s Freshman of the Week last season (Nov. 11; Nov. 25). She also becomes the first Buckeye to earn Defensive Player of the Week laurels since Mariah Booth on Nov. 7, 2011.
