Meet the Newcomers: Maddie Marotti – Ohio State Buckeyes

Maddie Marotti joins the Buckeyes’ program in 2014-15 after spending last fall at Notre Dame. She played for one season at near-by Bishop Watterson High School, batting .379 and leading the Eagles to an undefeated regular season. For three years, Marotti stared for St. Francis High School in Gainesville, Fla., where she was a team MVP and first team all-state selection.
WHAT DOES BEING A BUCKEYE MEAN TO YOU?
To me, becoming a Buckeye means that I am welcomed into a family of approximately 57,000 plus students and 1,130 plus athletes who all share a passion for being able to attend one of the greatest universities in the country.
DESCRIBE SOME OF THE FACTORS THAT WENT IN TO YOU CHOOSING OHIO STATE
There is really no better fit for me. My father is an alum and currently is the Assistant AD for Football Sports Performance. My brother is a junior and is a manager for the football team. And my family lives in Dublin.
WHICH OHIO STATE TRADITIONS ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO PARTICIPATING IN?
The tradition that I am most looking forward to is being able to sing Carmen Ohio at the end of every softball game.
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING THAT FANS WILL NOTICE ABOUT YOUR STYLE OF PLAY WHEN THEY COME TO A GAME AT BUCKEYE FIELD?
When the fans come to see a game at Buckeye Field the first thing they will notice about my style of play is that I play with relentless effort.
TALK ABOUT THE IMPACT OF THE BUCKEYES’ COACHING STAFF, AND HEAD COACH KELLY KOVACH SCHOENLY IN PARTICULAR, HAD ON YOU DURING THE RECRUITING PROCESS
Coach Schoenly and the Buckeyes’ coaching staff have made my transfer to Ohio State extremely easy. They have welcomed me into the softball family and have already made me feel at home.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE GOALS YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACHIEVE DURING YOUR TIME AT OHIO STATE, BOTH ATHLETICALLY AND ACADEMICALLY?
Athletically, I would like to see playing time as well as help the team any way that I can. Academically, I would like to be at the top of my class and have the opportunity to attend graduate school here.
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS/HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF SOFTBALL?
Some of my interests outside softball include spending time with my family, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends.
