Meet the Newcomers: Taylor White – Ohio State Buckeyes

A versatile player, Taylor White joins the Buckeyes by way of Chaminade Prep in California. As a senior, she hit .710 with 34 runs scored, 17 RBI, 14 doubles and nine home runs on her way to earning first team All-California honors from Cal Hi-Sports. No stranger to winning, White was a member of the Corona Angles, the 2014 Premier Girls Fastpitch national champions.
What does becoming a Buckeye mean to you?
Personally, I would have to say becoming a Buckeye is one of the best choices I have made thus far in my life. It has been a great honor to be presented with the opportunity to capture and uphold all of the traditions that have been established for many years at this prestigious university. I look forward to making my mark and getting a chance to be a part of all of the opportunities that the athletic program and school itself has to offer. Becoming a Buckeye, unlike most at this school, is not something that I have always dreamed of. However, after visiting THE Ohio State University my junior year in high school, I automatically knew it was somewhere I wanted to go and something I wanted to be a part of. Becoming a Buckeye means that I have entered the biggest family of my life, and there will always be fellow Buckeyes around to support me anywhere I go throughout the world.
Describe some of the factors that went in to you choosing to come to Ohio State
The athletic program and alumni base definitely played huge roles in my choice to come to Ohio State. I have heard many great things that the athletic program has done over the years and I wanted to become a part of that. I also wanted to help to make history in my years at Ohio State as a softball player, and become a part of such a tight knit family. All of the coaches were welcoming on my visit and all of the girls on the team had good things to say about the program and were genuinely excited. Also, the support system for everyone at Ohio State, not just athletes, was very important to me. I felt as though everyone I talked to genuinely wanted you to do well in whatever it was I had planned to do with my life.
What Ohio State traditions are you most looking forward to participating in?
The traditions I have been looking forward to since 2013 would have to be the Mirror Lake jump before the Michigan game. I have seen videos and have heard about how great this student tradition was and I cannot wait to participate this year!
What is the first thing that fans will notice about your style of play when they come to see a game the Buckeye Field?
The first things fans will notice is that I am a high-intensity player and will always give 100% in whatever the situation is. I get very into the game and I will be ready to go at all times. I will always be looking for the next base and being a team player always doing what is best for the team!
Talk about the impact the Buckeyes’ coaching staff, and head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly in particular, had on you during the recruiting process
The coaching staff had a great impact, from day one they were straight forward in telling me what they needed me to do on the field, and were very welcoming when I came on my visits. They reached out and made sure I knew I could call them even if it was just to chat about my day. This helped me to become more comfortable with them which made me feel as though I was already a part of the Buckeye family, and I was already establishing my home away from home.
What are some of the goals you would like to achieve during your time at Ohio State, both athletically and academically
Some goals academically would be to get my degree as soon as possible and to help to improve the team GPA each semester. I would like to become part of the scholar athlete list as well. Athletically, I am going to push myself to be the best player I can be and to be able to help my team to the best of my ability. I hope to become a player that people look up to and the type of leader on the field that people want to be.
What are your interests and/or hobbies outside of softball?
Outside of softball I enjoy watching netflix, geocaching, going to the beach and shopping.
