ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Ohio State Women’s Golf took control of the No. 1 seed at the East & West Match Play Challenge, opening up an 11-stroke gap from the rest of the field after 36 holes of stroke play qualifying. The entire Buckeye lineup finished in the top-20 individually, led by Jessica Porvasnik’s share of second place on the individual leaderboard.
The Buckeyes posted back-to-back 4-over 292’s on Saturday, setting up a semifinal match-up with fourth-seeded SMU Sunday morning starting at 9 a.m. ET. The top-4 teams advanced to the championship match play bracket while the bottom four will face off in the consolation bracket. The No. 2 and No. 3 seeds are UC Davis and Wisconsin, respectively.
Porvasnik, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year, carded 72-71 to tie for second. Jan Chanpalangsri and Claudia Lim each opened with even-par 72’s as well. Chanpalangsri mirrored the 72 in round number two while Lim tallied a 74. The Buckeye seniors placed T-4th and 6th, respectively.
Porvasnik and Chanpalangsri each knocked in eight birdies on the day to pace the field. Lim pinpointed her way to a 1-under day on the Par 3’s while Porvasnik and Chanpalangsri both found success with the long ball, dipping 4-under par on the Par 5’s.
Rio Watanabe and Katja Pogacar recorded identical scores, both ending up tied for 16th with tallies of 76-75.
In addition, Lina Aguillon placed T-25th overall (76-78) and was the second highest finisher amongst the players competing as ‘individuals.’ As the second-seed in the individual match play championship bracket, she matches up with third-seeded Catherine Peters of Michigan in the semifinals on Sunday.
