Borchers Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Katie Borchers, a junior distance runner on the Ohio State women’s cross country and track and field teams, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District women’s track and field/cross country team for district five.
The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
Borchers, a product of Russia, Ohio has a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.65 and is pursuing a degree in communication. She will now move onto the ballot for possible Academic All-America honors.
A three-time Ohio State scholar-athlete, Borchers has also twice been named Academic All-Big Ten and in 2013 was named as a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection.
Her athletic resume is just as impressive. In 2013 Borchers became the first Ohio State cross country runner to earn NCAA/USTFCCCA All-American status. She was also named as a 2013 First Team All-Big Ten and NCAA All-Great Lakes Regional selection.
She has also seen success on the track as she just recently became the Big Ten’s outdoor champion in the 800-meter run. Borchers holds three school records, one individually in the 800m (2:05.17), and another two as part of the 4×800-meter relay team (8:39.80) and distance medley relay team (11:27.78).
Borchers will look to add the her accomplishments tonight in the 800m at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Preliminary Championships taking place in Jacksonville, Fla.
