COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior setter Taylor Sherwin captured Big Ten Setter of the Week laurels for the final week of the regular season. She guided Ohio State to wins over Minnesota and Rutgers to secure the Buckeyes’ NCAA Tournament bid, averaging 12.75 assists per set for the week.
It marks Sherwin’s second conference setter of the week recognition in 2014 (also Oct. 6) and the fourth of her career (Sept. 2, 2013 and Sept. 14, 2013). She not only steered the offensive ship but also provided some points directly on her own with five service aces and a pair of kills. The Orlando, Fla., native provided substantial defensive contributions as well, averaging 1.25 digs and .50 blocks per set.
Sherwin dished out 44 assists in the regular season finale at Rutgers as Ohio State attacked at a season-best .398 clip (50-11-98) versus the Scarlet Knights. It was the program’s highest hitting percentage since a .485 effort (38-6-66) against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sept. 20, 2013.
The Buckeyes qualified for the program’s 20th NCAA Tournament, receiving an at-large bid to the 2014 postseason. Ohio State (21-11) will be sent to Lexington, Ky., for a first round match-up against Lipscomb University (21-8) on Friday (Dec. 5) at 5 p.m. ET.
