COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gabriella De Santis and Sandy Niehaus, sophomore members of the Ohio State women’s team, wrapped up competition in the main draw of the 2014 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Thursday in Pacific Palisades, California. After earning a spot in the main draw of the tournament from doubles qualifier action, the duo advanced to the second round of the bracket before dropping its match vs. the tournament’s No. 3 seed. The Buckeyes now look ahead to the HEB/Under Armour Fall Invite this weekend in Waco, Texas.
In the ITA All-American Championships, De Santis and Niehaus notched a straight-set win in the first round of the doubles main draw bracket, defeating Utah State’s McKenzie Davis and Kallie Sperry, 7-5, 6-4. The Buckeyes battled, but fell to Miami’s Albuquerque and Riobueno by the same score in the next round. The loss snapped an 18-match win streak for the sophomore tandem.
This weekend, Grainne O’Neill, Anna Sanford, Olivia Sneed and Ferny Angeles Paz will travel to Waco, Texas, to compete in the HEB/Under Armour Fall Invite. The Buckeyes will compete in doubles and singles competition in the round-robin tournament, facing opponents from South Alabama, ULM, University of Maryland, Southern Methodist, and host Baylor. Freshmen Sanford and Sneed will be making the first appearances of their collegiate careers.
A live video stream will be available from the event and is linked above along with the draw for the tournament.
