Buckeyes Round Out First Day in Ninth at Big Ten Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State men’s golf team opened the 2012 Big Ten Championships in French Lick, Indiana Friday ranked ninth after two rounds of play. The Scarlet and Gray carded a 39-over 615 on the par-72, 7,152-yard Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort, and currently has two individuals in the top 20 – Grant Weaver and Boo Timko.
Weaver, who is competing in his first conference tournament as a freshman, posted a consistent score of 3-over 75 in the first and second rounds. The Wooster, Ohio native, will enter day two tied for 14th-place with a 6-over 150. Another freshman competing for the Buckeyes, Timko, followed closely with a pair of 4-over 76 scores to tie for 20th-place (8-over 152).
Senior Alex Redfield recorded an even 72 in the first round and followed with 13-over 85 in the second. Currently tied for 39th-place, Redfield finished the day with a 13-over 157.
After a top 10 finish at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Tournament (April 14-15), redshirt freshman Logan Jones is tied for 47th-place after shooting a 16-over 160. Matt Turner rounds out scoring for the Scarlet and Gray, posting an 18-over 162 to tie for 54th-place.
Illinois’ Luke Guthrie leads the individual competition with a 1-under 143. Guthrie, who took home the individual title last season, is currently the only finisher under par. The Fighting Illini also stand alone on top the team rankings with a 16-over 592.
Ohio State will return to the championships tomorrow with the third round scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Live scoring of the Big Ten action will once again be available at www.golfstat.com.
