Scarlet and Gray to Spend Weekend Competing in Gainesville and Oxford – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 31 Ohio State women’s track and field team will take the track in Gainesville, Fla., Saturday to compete in the Tom Jones Memorial Classic hosted by the University of Florida. Several Buckeyes will also compete in the All-Ohio Championships in Oxford, Ohio at Miami this Friday and Saturday.
Action from Gainesville is scheduled to begin at noon ET with the hammer throw inside of the Percy Beard Track Facility. The 4x100m relay is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET to kick-off the running events. A complete recap will be available after the meet at www.OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
Buckeyes in the USTFCCA Rankings
In the April 17 rankings, the Buckeyes checked-in at No. 31 according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Ohio State joins No. 21 Nebraska as the top two nationally ranked Big Ten teams. The top three overall spots remain unchanged with the Oregon Ducks remaining as the top-ranked team in the country, followed by second-ranked LSU and No. 3 Clemson.
Buckeyes in the Individual Top 25 Rankings
Nine members of the Scarlet and Gray are ranked within the Top 25 nationally in several event areas. A look at where the Buckeyes sit:
- Christina Manning – No. 1 in the 100m hurdles, No. 9 in the 4x100m relay, No. 15 in the 100m dash
- Chesna Sykes – No. 9 in the 4x100m relay, No. 13 in the 100m dash
- Madison McNary – No. 9 in the 4x100m relay
- Christienne Linton – No. 9 in the 4x100m relay
- Nyjah Cousar – No. 17 in the 4x400m relay, No. 25 in the 400m hurdles
- Jackie Dim – No. 17 in the 4x400m relay
- Shaniqua McGinnis – No. 17 in the 4x400m relay
- Alexandria Johnson – No. 17 in the 4x400m relay
- Maggie Mullen– No. 25 in the hammer throw
Last Time Out
The Buckeyes stayed in Columbus for the 27th Jesse Owens Track Classic April 13-14. As several seniors competed in front of their hometown crowd for the last time, the Scarlet and Gray did not let rainy weather get in the way of some great performances inside of Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Maggie Mullen (59.84m/196-04) used a PR throw in the hammer to win a gold medal. In the high jump, Ashley Galbraith cleared the bar with a mark of 1.70m (5-7) to win.
Ohio State went 2-3 in the 100m dash with Madison McNary (11.77) finishing second and Chesna Sykes using a time of 11.86 for third. Aisha Cavin crossed the line in the 200m dash in 24.24 for the victory.
The Buckeyes picked up two gold medals in the hurdles with Christina Manning (13.06) winning the 100m hurdles and Nyjah Cousar (59.98) taking first in the 400m hurdles.
The 4x100m relay team and 4x400m relay team were both victorious in their respective races. Cavin, Alexandria Johnson, Cousar and Shaniqua McGinnis combined for a time of 3:45.12 in the 4x400m relay. The 4x100m relay team of McNary, Manning, Sykes and Christienne Lintonwon with a time of 44.55.
