Jesse Owens Track Classic Underway – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Distance and field events were showcased on the first night of competition at the 27th Jesse Owens Track Classic Friday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
1500m
Michigan State placed 1-2 in the event. Sara Kroll was the winner in 4:25.65 and Leah O’Connor second in 4:27.35. Third place went to Miami’s Kelley Miller (4:28.38). Jordan Jennewine was the top Buckeye runner, taking seventh in 4:32.80.
3000m Steeplechase
First place went to Stephanie Bonk of Purdue in 10:30.11. Runner-up Tiffany Evans of Michigan State completed her race in 10:38.82, and third-place finisher Becki Michael of Second Sole crossed the finish line in 10:45.51. Michelle Thomas placed sixth in a time of 11:04.28.
5000m
Erin Richards of Hansons-Brooks ODP held off a pack of four Michigan State runners to win the 5000m in a time of 16:38.09. Carlie Green placed second for the Spartans in 16:38.09, with teammate Katie Haines taking third (16:38.80).
Discus
Michigan State’s Beth Rohl took first place at 51.92m (168-02), with Mary Bridges of Cincinnati (49.84m/163-6) and Janine Tessarzik of Ashland (49.01m/160-9) finishing second and third, respectively. Carly Pendleton was the top Buckeye finisher, placing sixth with a 45.99m (150-11) toss.
Javelin
Vicki Webb of YUTC won the title at 47.43m (155-7), followed by Miami’s Victoria Paterra (46.25m/151-9) and Chantae McMillan of KETC (45.91m/150-7).
Day two field events begin at 10:30 a.m. ET. Running events get underway at noon ET.
