Manning sweeps 100m dash and hurdles at Jim Click Shootout – Ohio State Buckeyes

TUSCON, Ariz. — Christina Manning picked up two wins for the women’s track and field team at the Jim Click Shootout Saturday at the University of Arizona while setting a school record in the 100m hurdles.
This wasn’t your typical meet, as it feautured a conference event scoring with the Pac-12 duo of Arizona and California winning with a score of 460, ahead of the Big Ten combination of the Buckeyes and Penn State, who combined to score 422.33. Clemson and Miami represented the ACC with a total of 266. Arizona won the event with 162 points, followed by Clemson (145), Penn State (98) and Ohio State (95). California (55) and Miami (23) rounded out the team scoring.
Manning set a Roy P. Drachman Stadium record and broke the Ohio State record in the 100m hurdles with a winning time of 12.68, the fastest Division I time this season. She also edged out three Clemson speedsters in the 100m dash in a winning time of 11.43, just ahead of Clemson’s Dezerea Bryant (11.46). The All-American’s time is currently fifth in Division I this season. Chesna Sykes finished fifth overall for the Buckeyes (11.57).
Manning and Sykes also teamed up with Madison McNary and Aisha Cavin to pick up eight points and a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay (44.13). Sykes also pulled in six points in the 200m dash with a close third-place finishing time of 23.85, just behind Clemson’s Bryant (23.24) and Bridgette Owens (23.51).
Shaniqua McGinnis would finish third in the 400m dash in a time of 53.93 while also helping her 4x400m relay team of Nyjah Cousar, Jackie Dim and Alexandria Johnson to a second-place time of 3:35.58, the second-fastest time in the country and fifth-best time in school history. Arizona’s 4x400m relay team just edged the Buckeyes with a time of 3:34.37, the fastest time in the country.
In the distance events, Katie Betts pulled in eight points with her second-place finish in the 800m run in a time of 2:13.43. Michelle Thomas and Nicole Hilton picked up a total of six points in the 3000m steeplechase with fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively.
In the field events, Norianna Brown finished second overall in the shot put with a toss of 15.04m. Ashley Galbraith was second in the high jump with her top mark of 1.71m (5-07.25) while Alexis Thomas and Maggie Mullen went 4-5 in the hammer throw with tosses of 54.44m and 53.52m, respectively.
The Buckeyes will take a week off from competition before competing in the 2012 Jesse Owens Classic April 13-14 in Columbus.
