Herron Picked in Fourth Round by Akron Racers – Ohio State Buckeyes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – With the second pick in the fourth round (14th overall) of the 2012 National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) College Draft, Akron Racers President/GM Joey Arrietta added another Buckeye to the Racers roster as she selected shortstop Alicia Herron from The Ohio State University.
Herron, a native of Cypress, Calif., is a three-time selection for All-Big Ten honors and has been named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List.
“We’ve had an eye on Herron for a while now,” said Arrietta. “Playing down the road in Columbus we’ve seen that she moves well up the middle and has a powerful swing at the plate. She has a future in the NPF and could fill a hole at shortstop for us as a rookie.”
At the plate, Herron has racked up 175 hits in her career, amounting to 33 doubles, seven triples and 35 home runs. Before the start of the 2012 season, Herron had a career OPS of 1.123, ranking her near the top of the list among potential draft picks. With 128 RBIs, 61 walks and 120 runs scored, she has the offensive potential and defensive skills to have a bright professional future.
Due to NCAA regulations, an active college senior athlete is not eligible to sign with her respective franchise until after their senior season is completed.
The Akron Racers open the 2012 season on Thursday, June 7, with a regular season opener against the newly formed Carolina Diamonds. Season tickets for the 2012 season are on sale now and can be ordered by calling 330-376-8188.
