Ohio State Drops 4-3 Decision to Oregon – Ohio State Buckeyes

EUGENE, Ore. – The Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to Oregon, 4-3, on the road in Eugene, Ore., Sunday evening. The Buckeyes (5-7, 0-1 Big Ten) took the doubles point, but could not hold off the Ducks (7-2) in singles play. Each of Ohio State’s last four losses have been 4-3 decisions.
The Buckeyes continue their season with two matches in Louisiana later this month. The team travels to New Orleans to take on Tulane March 18 before facing LSU in Baton Rouge March 20.
The Scarlet and Gray’s Kara Cecil and Kelsey Dieters clinched the doubles point after downing Patricia Skowronski and Sofia Hager, 8-6, at the top spot. The Buckeye duo of Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele defeated Pascale Neubert and Rabea Stueckemann, 8-3, on court three.
Oregon jumped to a 2-1 lead with singles victories on courts one and three, but Steele tied the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Neubert on court five. The win was Steele’s sixth in a row.
After the Ducks took the No. 6 singles match to regain the lead, Dieters moved the score to 3-3 with a 7-6, 6-4 win against Hager on court four. In the final match on court two, Manashirova pushed Skowronski to a third set with a 6-4 win in the second set, but the Duck claimed a 7-5 third set to give Oregon the team victory.
