Ohio State Falls to No. 49 LSU, 4-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 66th-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team competed through a trio of rain delays but ultimately fell to 49th-ranked Louisiana State, 4-2, on the road in Baton Rouge, La., Tuesday evening in the Buckeyes’ final non-conference match of the regular season.
Ohio State (5-9, 0-1 Big Ten) notched straight-set singles victories on courts four and five against the Tigers (9-6, 2-2 SEC). The match between Fidan Manashirova and Kaitlin Burns on court three was suspended due to weather as it was heading into a third set.
The Scarlet and Gray host their first Big Ten series of the year this weekend. The team faces Purdue at 3 p.m. Friday before taking on Indiana at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The Tigers swept all three doubles contests by 8-6 scores to earn the first point of the match. LSU’s Olivia Howlett and Yvette Vlaar downed Manashirova and Gabby Steele on court two before the Tiger tandem of Burns and Ariel Morton clinched the point with a win over Kelsey Becker and Kelsey Haviland on court three.
At No. 1 doubles, LSU’s Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger outlasted the top Buckeye duo of Kara Cecil and Kelsey Dieters.
The Tigers nabbed an early 2-0 lead with a win on court one before the Buckeyes tied it up with wins from Steele and Dieters on courts four and five, respectively.
Dieters wrapped up first, downing Ebie Wilson, 6-3, 6-1, before Steele set the tie with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Frankenberger.
Following the third rain delay of the day, LSU tallied wins on courts six and two to earn the team win and cement the final score at 4-2.
