Boise, Idaho – Sam Marder is in her first season as an assistant softball coach at Boise State. Most recently, Marder was a volunteer assistant at Oregon. She joined the Ducks staff in the fall of 2011.
After becoming the first player in school history to be a three-time All-American, Marder was named the Ohio State Female Athlete of the Year in 2009-10. She was the leader of a senior class that finished with 159 wins-second-most in school history-achieved the program’s highest national ranking (No. 12) and advanced to Ohio State’s first NCAA Super Regional (2009).
Marder, a catcher for the Buckeyes, set Ohio State career records for home runs (61), RBI (191) and walks (252) during her decorated career. Her walk total ranks No. 4 all-time in NCAA Division I history, while she ranks 23rd in career home runs and her slugging percentage is the 14th-higest. She was a four-time All-Big Ten and All-Region selection from 2007-2010. Marder was also a four-time scholar athlete.
After finishing her collegiate career, Marder was taken with the seventh overall pick in the 2010 National Professional Fastpitch Draft by the Akron Racers. She debuted in 2011, leading the Racers with a .403 batting average, seven home runs and 17 RBI. She helped Akron post a 22-17 record to finish second in the league and was named first-team All-NPF.
After the season, Marder took her position at Oregon. Marder began her coaching career as an undergraduate assistant at Ohio State in 2010-11, while she finished her history degree.
A native of Calabasas, Calif., Marder was a first-team all-state selection as a senior and three-time all-league and all-area honoree for Calabasas High School.
