No. 18 Ohio State to Head West, Face Toughest Competition of Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 18 Ohio State women’s track and field team is traveling to Albuquerque, N.M., Friday to compete in the Don Kirby Elite Invite. The team is coming off of two big meets last weekend where school records were set and top times turned in. This weekend they are hoping to improve off of that performance as they will face some of the nation’s toughest competition including No. 1 Oregon.
Action for the Buckeyes at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational will begin at the University of New Mexico’s banked indoor track inside of the Albuquerque Convention Center Feb. 10 at approximately 5 p.m. ET with the high jump. Buckeyes in the USTFCCCA Rankings
Ohio State moved down three spots to No. 18 in the Feb. 6 rankings by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Ohio State and rival No. 25 Michigan are the only Big Ten schools represented in the top 25 national rankings.
Manning Named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week
All-American Christina Manning was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week Feb. 6 by the conference office after running the best race of her career thus far at Illinois’ Orange and Blue Open Feb. 4.
The senior collected two first-place finishes in Champaign. In the 60m hurdles invitational division, Manning crossed the line in a PR time of 7.99 to tie the facility record at the U of I Track & Floor and record the nation’s third-best time this season and the second-best time in Ohio State history. The senior also led a Buckeye sweep of the top 3 spots in the 60m dash where she placed first in 7.37.

- Christina Manning – No. 3 in the 60m hurdles, No. 13 in the 60m dash, No. 14 in the 200m dash
- Kelcey McKinney – No. 8 in the triple jump
- Maggie Mullen – No. 9 in the weight throw
- Alexis Thomas – No. 16 in the weight throw
- Tori Brink – No. 19 in the DMR
- Katie Betts – No. 19 in the DMR
- Jordan Jennewine – No. 19 in the DMR
- Katie Borchers – No. 19 in the DMR
- Chesna Sykes – No. 21 in the 60m dash
- Shaniqua McGinnis – No. 23 in the 400m dash
- Aisha Cavin – No. 22 in the 200m dash
Last Time Out
The split for two meets with the short sprinters and hurdlers at the Orange and Blue Open and the rest of the team at the Meyo Invitational. Below are some of the highlights from the meet:
- Shaniqua McGinnis (1:11.84) broke a 14-year old meet record and set a new Ohio State record in the 500m dash at the Meyo Invitational.
- With a time of 11:27.78, Brink, Betts, Jennewine and Borchers combined to set a new school record in the distance medley relay at the Meyo Invitational.
- Manning used a win to tie the facility record at the U of I Track & Floor with a PR of 7.99 in the 60m hurdles. Manning (7.37) also led a sweep of the top 3 spots in the 60m dash.
- Christienne Linton (7.51) and Sykes (7.60) followed Manning for second and third, respectively, in the 60m dash.
- In the 200m dash at the Orange and Blue Open, Sykes used a time of 24.44 to win. Alexandria Johnson (25.25) finished third.
- Ashley Galbraith used a mark of 1.75m (5-9) to take third in the high jump at the Meyo Invite.
- Setting a new PR in the triple jump at the Meyo Invitational was McKinney who also placed third.
