Buckeyes Climb to 11th at Puerto Rico Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team moved into 11th-place at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R., after posting a second round score of 1-over 289; the Buckeyes are now 16-over 592 for the tournament. Senior Alex Redfield leads Ohio State individually, breaking into the Top 25 at the par-72, 6,902-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club.
Redfield shot a solid 2-under 70 on day two to move up 15 spots in the individual standings. The Columbus native heads into the final day of competition tied for 21st-place, shooting an even 144 after two rounds of play.
Freshman Boo Timko and senior Dan Charen are tied in the standings in 45th-place (6-over 150). Both improved on their first round scores, Timko by two-strokes and Charen by four. Timko finished the round with a 2-over 74, while Charen recorded a 1-over 73.
Freshman Grant Weaver and junior Matt Turner are tied for 52nd (7-over 151). Weaver shot a consistent 3-over 75, and Turner improved his opening round score by seven-strokes with an even second round.
Georgia Tech’s James White took over the individual competition, and will go into the final round 8-under 136 with a two-stroke lead over Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt and Justin Thomas. Alabama extended its lead with an impressive 21-under 555 performance thus far at the classic. Tournament host Purdue climbed into second-place trailing the Crimson Tide with an 8-under 568.
