Buckeyes Finish 11th at Puerto Rico Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team wrapped up competition Tuesday at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande P.R. in 11th place after carding a 23-over 887 through 54 holes. Senior Alex Redfield placed in the Top 15 individually, finishing 1-under 215 at the par-72, 6,902-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club.
Redfield, who shot a solid 2-under 70 on day two, was consistent in the third round to lead the team with a 1-under 71. Finishing the competition tied for 14th, Redfield gradually moved up the leaderboard after opening tied for 21st-place after the first day of competition.
Freshmen Boo Timko and Grant Weaver were next in line for the Buckeyes. Timko concluded the tournament tied for 39th-place after shooting a 6-over 222. Weaver finished close behind tied for 43rd, carding a 7-over 223 overall.
Dan Charen, a senior from Langhorne, Pa., placed tied for 62nd after posting a 14-over 230. Junior Matt Turner recorded a 15-over 231, which earned him the 66th spot in the final standings.
Alabama’s Justin Thomas won the individual title outright. Thomas carded a 10-under 206, with second-place finisher Talor Gooch of Oklahoma State following closely with a 9-under 207. Alabama also claimed the team championship with an impressive 30-under 834 performance. The Crimson Tide took down second-place Clemson and third-place Purdue by 18 and 22 strokes, respectively.
Ohio State has a month-long break before the FAU Spring Break Championships in Lake Worth, Fla., March 23-25. The FAU Spring Break Championships will be the final turn-up before a busy April for the Buckeyes, with two tournaments – including the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at Ohio State – leading up to the Big Ten Championships April 27-29.
