Buckeyes Win Big At Toledo – Ohio State Buckeyes

In its first competition of the new year, Ohio State posted a 201-99 victory at Toledo in a dual meet in women’s swimming and diving Saturday. The Buckeyes won both relays, and Ohio State had all but four of the individual winners in the meet.
Ohio State had the top four scorers in one-meter diving: Bianca Alvarez (307.80), Kristen Asman (273.90), Cheyenne Cousineau (267.23) and Taylor Ford (249.53). Asman was the winner of the three-meter competition with a score of 264.38. Alvarez placed third at three meters (248.70) and Ford was fourth (237.08).
Buckeyes Kelsey Moran (56.31) and Emily Creran (56.94) placed one-two in the 100 backstroke. Creran was the winner in the 200 backstroke, in a time of 2:01.37; her teammates Lauren Massey (2:04.23) and Kristyn Fulcher (2:05.50) were fourth and fifth.
In the freestyle events, Kelly Ann Baird (9:58.12) and Natalie Nichols (10:08.24) were the first two finishers in the 1000 free. Baird won the 500 free in a time of 4:54.37; Nichols was fourth (5:02.17), followed by Alex Norris (5:03.71) and Kelly Titus (5:04.18).
The Buckeyes swept the top three spots in the 50 free behind the performances of Michelle Williams (23.72), Jackie Brousseau (24.27) and Lisa Spurling (24.96). Williams was also the winner in the 100 free (51.59), with Buckeyes Phoebe Cater (52.44) and Lisa Narum (54.03) placing third and fourth. Toledo’s Carly Harter won the 200 free (1:49.72), but Buckeyes Phoebe Cater (1:50.62), Alex Norris (1:51.63) and Lisa Narum (1:55.05) finished second, third and fourth in that event.
OSU’s Shannon Draves won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:01.78; teammates Darcy Fishback (2:04.18) and Alex Norris (2:09.72) were third and fifth in that race. Draves (55.34) was the winner of the 100 butterfly as well, and Fishback (57.52) placed second.
Laura Lindsay of Toledo won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.65), but Ohio State’s Angela Severn (1:04.02) placed second and Catherine Eitel (1:05.65) was third. Lindsay also won the 200 breaststroke (2:17.87); Severn (2:22.01), Ashley Vance (2:23.10) and Eitel (2:23.86) placed second, third and fourth for Ohio State.
Toledo’s Carly Harter won the 200 IM in a time of 2:03.30. The Buckeyes took second through fourth places: Ashley Vance (2:08.98), Emily Creran (2:09.11) and Kelly Titus (2:10.84).
The Ohio State quartet of Moran, Severn, Draves and Williams won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:42.40. In the 400 freestyle relay, the Ohio State team of Williams, Cater, Severn and Norris was the first-place finisher in a time of 3:28.18, as Buckeye relays swept the first three spots of that event.
The Buckeyes return to action Saturday, January 21, hosting Michigan at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at 1 p.m.
