Buckeyes Win Shamrock Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

South Bend, Indiana – Ohio State captured the championship at Notre Dame’s Shamrock Invitational. The Buckeyes won the women’s competition 214-147 over Notre Dame and 217-146 over Iowa.
The Buckeyes were one-two-three in the 100 butterfly. Shannon Draves was the winner (55.48) with Darcy Fishback second (56.42) and Michelle Williams third (56.48).
Ohio State’s Catherine Eitel captured the 100 breaststroke title in a time of 1:03.72. Angela Severn (1:05.45) placed fourth and Jackie Brousseau (1:06.57) was eighth.
Buckeye Michelle Williams won the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.10. Megan Detro was third in a time of 51.11. Alex Norris of Ohio State won the 200 free in a time of 1:50.68. Her teammates Megan Detro (1:52.54) and Kelly Ann Baird (1:54.57) placed third and eighth in the 200 free.
The Buckeyes had the top two times in the 200 medley relay. The quarter of Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Michelle Williams was first in a time of 1:42.99, while the team of Emily Creran, Catherine Eitel, Alex Norris and Megan Detro placed second in 1:43.97.
Notre Dame’s Emma Reaney won the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.16. Buckeyes Angela Severn (2:19.93) was second, Catherine Eitel (2:20.05) was third, Ashley Vance (2:21.73) was sixth and Lisa Narum (2:22.22) was eighth.
Bridget Casey of Notre Dame won the 200 butterfly (2:01.71). Ohio State’s Darcy Fishback (2:01.91) and Shannon Draves (2:03.28) were second and third in the 200 fly; Alex Norris was fifth (2:05.07).
In the 800 free relay, Ohio State’s entry of Alex Norris, Megan Detro, Phoebe Cater and Michelle Williams was first in a time of 7:28.05. The OSU relay of Kristyn Fulcher, Ashley Vance, Shannon Draves and Natalie Nichols placed third in a time of 7:37.89.
Ohio State won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:22.91, behind the performances of Michelle Williams, Alex Norris, Phoebe Cater and Megan Detro.
Iowa’s Becky Stoughton won the 400 IM in a time of 4:17.44. Buckeyes Angela Severn (4:24.57) and Emily Creran (4:24.72) placed third and fourth, while Natalie Nichols (4:29.60) and Kelly Titus (4:30.81) were sixth and seventh. Stoughton won the 200 backstroke in 1:58.38. Buckeye Emily Creran was second (2:00.19) and Lauren Massey fifth (2:03.57). Stoughton also won the 1650 free in a time of 16:27.77; Kelly Titus was second in the 1650 free in 17:00.54.
Danielle Carty of Iowa won the 100 backstroke in a time of 55.82. Ohio State’s Emily Creran was third (56.61), Kelsey Moran fifth (56.79) and Lauren Massey seventh (57.85).
Ohio State returns to action February 11-12 hosting the OSU Winter Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
