Columbus, Ohio – Two-time All-American Dana Degan will be working with the Ohio State softball squad this season as a volunteer coach.
A graduate of Hawaii, where she was the WAC player of the year in 2000, Degan earned All-America honors there from NFCA Louisville Slugger and Easton, and was a four-time all-Western Athletic Conference and all-Western Region pick (1997-2000).
A veteran of 11 years of experience in professional softball both in the United States and Italy, Degan was selected as the all-star catcher for National Pro Fastpitch/Women’s Pro Softball League in 2000 and 2004. She was the League MVP of the Italian Softball League in 2005 and 2007, playing for Bollate.
“We’re very fortunate to have someone with the playing experience and passion for the game that Dana possesses. She will work primarily with catchers and outfielders, two areas where we’re pretty young, but talented,” says head coach Linda Kalafatis. “We’ve been very fortunate to have quality people serving in this role in the past and now, with Dana joining our staff, our athletes have another quality coach and person to learn from.”
A native of San Diego, Calif., Degan served as an assistant coach at Hawaii in 2005, before working as a private hitting and catching instructor in New York from 2006-10.
