Ohio State Wraps Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Tied for Tenth – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Competing in the third and final round of play at the historic Olympia Fields Country Club, the 20th-ranked Ohio State men’s golf team wrapped up a weekend of competition tied for tenth. The Buckeyes concluded the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational with a 54-hole total of 890 (+50).
The tournament featured a tough 15-team field on the challenging course. Stanford, the 12th-ranked team nationally, won the tournament after posting an impressive 9-over 849. That score finished sixteen strokes better than No. 9 Auburn and No. 2 Oklahoma State who both finished 25-over 265. Rounding out the top 10 were No. 3 Alabama, No. 5 Texas, Florida State, No. 7 Florida, No. 13 Illinois, Notre Dame, No. 22 Augusta State as well as No. 20 Ohio State.
Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers won the individual competition, after making two birdies and no bogies to shoot a 68 to finish the invitational 4-under 206.
Leading the Buckeyes during the final round was freshman standout Boo Timko, who finished the day 3-over, building his total to 10-over 220 for a 25th-place tie. In only his second collegiate start, the Girard, Ohio native had a consistent weekend tallying a 72, 75 and 73 over three rounds of play.
Senior Dan Charen dropped from the Top 20 after a tough third round where he shot 8-over par. Charen ended the tournament tied for 41st with a 14-over 224 performance. Following not far behind Charen, junior Jamie Sindelar recorded a 16-over 226 to finish tied of 53rd.
Another freshman competing for the Scarlet and Gray was Grant Weaver, who ended his first collegiate start tied for 60th. Weaver improved his score each day of the tournament, ending 19-over 229.
Senior Alex Redfield rounded out the Buckeyes’ total tying for 66th, after scoring 22-over 232 after three rounds of play.
Ohio State will continue action Sept 26 when they travel to Toledo, Ohio for the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational.
