COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 20th-ranked Ohio State men’s golf team finished day one of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational with an impressive third-place standing among a tough field of competitors that included six Top 10 teams. Ohio State finished the day with a 5-over 285 on the historic par 70, 7,205-yard North Course at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.
Junior Jamie Sindelar led the pack of Buckeyes and put together a consistent performance, posting a 1-under 69 to finish day one tied for fifth. The Horesheads, N.Y., product tallied three birdies and had only one bogey on the day. Senior Dan Charen also concluded the day with a Top 20 performance, tying for 15th at 1-over 71.
Also adding to the Buckeyes’ total were freshman Boo Timko and senior Alex Redfield. Timko recorded a score of 72 to finish the round tied for 25th, while Redfield, coming off his first individual win at the Marshall Invitational earlier this week, notched a 73 to tie for 36th heading into round two.
Rounding out the team effort was freshman Grant Weaver who finished with a score of 10-over 80 to sit in 73rd.
The Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational will continue with another 18 holes of play tomorrow starting at 8 a.m. (CT).
