COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State sprinter/hurdler Letecia Wright was named track athlete of the week by the Big Ten conference Wednesday. This marks the All-American’s seventh athlete of the week honor of her career and her third this season.
The Baltimore, Md., native wins the award after a stellar, record-breaking performance at the 102nd Drake Relays. Wright had the best performance for the Scarlet and Gray in the 100m hurdles. The defending champion in the event used a personal-best time of 12.87 to not only win the hurdles, but break the 10-year-old Drake Relays record in the process. That blistering time is also the No. 4 time in Division I this season, first in the Big Ten and the third best in school history.
Wright did not stop there. The senior also teamed up with Christina Manning, Chesna Sykes and Madison McNary for the 4x100m relay. Together, they broke another Drake record and an Ohio State record to finish second overall in 43.93.
