Letecia Wright Wins 100m Hurdle Prelims – Ohio State Buckeyes

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Day two of the 2011 NCAA East Regional Preliminaries wrapped up with five Buckeyes moving on to the next round in their respected events.
Ohio State’s best performance came from senior All-American Letecia Wright in the 100m hurdles. Wright will enter the Saturday’s semifinals with the fastest time after besting the entire regional field in a blazing time of 13.12. Christina Manning wasn’t far behind. Her 13.40 was good for fifth as well as a spot in the quarterfinals. Joining the Maryland duo in the next round will be Alana Gray who ran a 13.81 to qualify.
In the high jump Ashley Galbraith cleared the bar at 1.78m to move on to the 2011 NCAA Championships in June in Des Moines. The junior will be making her first appearance at the championships. Brittani Carter (1.81m) from LSU will enter the championships with the best mark from the East.
Madison McNary qualified for the quarterfinals in the 200m dash after running a 23.97. With a 23.17, Sheniqua Ferguson from Auburn has the leading time heading into the next round.
In the quarterfinals of the 100m dash Manning crossed the line in 11.83. South Carolina’s Lakya Brookins had the top time of 11.31.
Nyjah Cousar narrowly missed qualifying in the 400m hurdles by one spot after running a 58.63.
With a mark of 12.41m Kelcey McKinney finished her most successful season to date in the triple jump.
Norianna Brown competed in the shot put and recorded a distance of 14.88m, but did not qualify. Competing for the second day was Maggie Mullen who competed in the javelin with a top mark of 45.56m.
The final day of the East prelims starts Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.
