Buckeyes In Home Stretch At OSU Invite – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – In the final day of competition, Ohio State placed 57 swimmers in this afternoon’s finals during the morning session of competition at the OSU Invitational being held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Finals in platform diving will also be held this evening. The Buckeye men are competing against Michigan State, Penn State and Purdue, while the women are facing Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Purdue.
In the 200 backstroke, Andrew Elliott set a men’s meet record (1:42.18); he will be joined in the event finals by Steven Zimmerman, Markus Sievers, Kevin Lancki and Connor McDonald. In the women’s 200 back, Emily Creran set a meet record (1:56.08) with the fastest preliminary time. Buckeyes Lauren Massey, Kelsey Moran and Kristyn Fulcher will also swim in the championship final.
Two Buckeyes qualified for the women’s final in the 100 freestyle race: Michelle Williams and Megan Detro. In the men’s 100 free, Jason Schnur led all qualifiers with a time of 43.70. Lincoln Fahrbach, Zach Birnbrich, Zach Holmes and Jacob Schuster also qualified for the finals.
Ohio State placed four men in the finals of the 200 breaststroke: Chris Cowley, Keanu Stevenson, Dak Stone and Andrew Braun. Ashley Vance is the only Buckeye in the women’s 200 breast championship race.
Luke Stirton was the fastest qualifier (1:46.23) in the men’s 200 butterfly; he is one of four Buckeyes who will swim in the finals of that race, along with Ryan Bubb, Garrett Trebilcock and Tamas Gercsak. In the women’s 200 fly, Shannon Draves and Darcy Fishback will swim in this afternoon’s final.
Finals begin at 3 p.m. this afternoon with the finals of the 1650 free. Admission is free.
