With another meet record in a relay, Ohio State finished with a strong performance Sunday to capture the team title at the sixth annual OSU Invitational.
Final team scores for the women: Ohio State 981.50; Penn State 815; Purdue 759.5; Notre Dame 718; Michigan State 311.
“Stefanie and I were pleased with the effort throughout this weekend,” said Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott. “This meet was a great indicator of where we are heading into the second half of the season. It’s effort like we showed this weekend that sets us up for Big Tens and NCAAs.”
In the last event of the three-day competition, Ohio State set a meet record in the 400 freestyle relay, as Michelle Williams, Megan Detro, Phoebe Cater and Alex Norris swam that race in 3:18.24.
Junior Emily Creran set a meet record in winning the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:55.39. Lauren Massey was third (1:58.58), Kelsey Moran sixth (1:59.87) and Kristyn Fulcher eighth (2:00.35) in that race.
Sam Palser of Penn State won the 100 freestyle (49.37). Buckeye Michelle Williams was third (49.67) and Megan Detro eighth (50.62) in that event.
Purdue’s Megan Gallagher won the 1650 freestyle (16:28.83) and Boilermaker Emily Fogle won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:10.32). Ohio State’s Ashley Vance was fifth in the 200 breast in a time of 2:17.44.
Purdue’s Rhiannon Sheets won the 200 butterfly in 1:56.67, while Ohio State’s Shannon Draves placed second (1:58.41). Darcy Fishback was sixth with a time of 2:00.07.
