Columbus, Ohio –
Senior distance freestyle specialist Natalie Nichols has offered to give an inside look at the Buckeyes’ Christmas training session. Today, she tells us about the activities that led up to Christmas
Wednesday morning, December 21, was our last official day of Christmas training. Practice ended around 8 a.m., and everyone dispersed to different parts of the country to spend the holiday break with family and friends. We had a busy two weeks full of team bonding activities and intense training.
Looking back on what we accomplished, as a team, our holiday training was a step in the right direction. Coming out of Christmas training I can definitely proclaim that our team is stronger in many different aspects, such as our communication with one another. We grew during those two weeks to become a team that is ready for the final months of competition.
Our team activities for the last half of Christmas training included seeing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, an Ohio State basketball game, and a few holiday gatherings. Even though most of our time was spent training, we definitely had some amazing experiences outside of the workout facilities. There were many memories and challenges that arose throughout this period, but these challenges helped us to grow and improve personally.
Becoming a better team or athlete requires a good amount of change. Our team is always trying to push forward by working on our weaknesses. We have learned a lot over the last few weeks of 2011, but we all realize that we have more work to do in order to achieve our expectations for 2012.
