Buckeyes Extend Lead – Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State relays set a meet record Saturday, as the Buckeyes widened their lead at the Ohio State Invitational after the second day of action.
Team scores for the women after Day Two: Ohio State 740, Penn State 574, Purdue 498, Notre Dame 496, Michigan State 240.
“It’s natural with our training to have a competitive meet at this point in the season, after the Thanksgiving break,” said Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott. “This is the perfect opportunity to gage where we’re at so far this season, and where we need to be moving forward.”
Notre Dame’s Emma Reaney won the 400 IM in a time of 4:12.19. Angela Severn was the Buckeyes’ top finisher, placing fourth in a time of 4:17.05. Kelly Titus was seventh (4:21.07) and Emily Creran eighth (4:25.01).
In the 100 butterfly race, Rhiannon Sheets of Purdue won in a time of 53.80. Buckeye Shannon Draves was second (54.09), Michelle Williams fourth (54.74) and Phoebe Cater eighth (55.90).
Purdue’s Lauren Roth (1:46.90) won the 200 freestyle race. Ohio State’s Alex Norris (1:47.49) and Megan Detro (1:48.73) finished second and third; OSU’s Michelle Williams (1:52.30) was eighth.
Emily Fogle of Purdue won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:00.68. Ohio State’s Angela Severn (1:02.15) finished second, Catherine Eitel (1:03.01) was fifth and Jackie Brousseau (1:03.67) was eighth.
Junior Kelsey Moran won the 100 backstroke in a time of 53.96. Her teammates Emily Creran (55.01) and Lauren Massey (55.43) finished fifth and sixth.
In the 200 medley relay, the Ohio State entry of Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro set a meet record, winning in 1:38.39. The Buckeye entry of Emily Creran, Jackie Brousseau, Ashley Vance and Michelle Williams finished fourth (1:43.34). Purdue won the 800 freestyle relay (7:15.39), while the Ohio State combine of Alex Norris, Angela Severn, Michelle Williams and Megan Detro finished second in 7:21.02.
Ohio State’s Kristen Asman won the three-meter diving competition, scoring 318.25. Cheyenne Cousineau (288.80) was fourth and Taylor Ford (251.05) seventh for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes continue to host the OSU Invitational Sunday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Sunday’s preliminary races begin at 9 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 3 p.m. Admission is free.
