Buckeyes Continue To Dominate – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – In Day Two, Ohio State placed 85 swimmers in tonight’s finals during the morning session of competition at the OSU Invitational being held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Finals in three-meter diving will also be held this evening. The Buckeye men are competing against Michigan State, Penn State and Purdue, while the women are facing Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Purdue.
In the 400 IM, Angela Severn, Emily Creran, Kelly Titus will swim in the women’s championship finals, while Brent Hitchcock, Steven Zimmerman and Andrew Braun advance to the men’s championship final race.
Buckeye junior Shannon Draves (53.78, a meet record) posted the fastest preliminary time in the women’s 100 butterfly; she will be joined in the finals by Michelle Williams and Phoebe Cater. In the men’s 100 fly, junior Luke Stirton (48.01) had the fastest qualifying time; he and four other OSU swimmers – Lincoln Fahrbach, Jason Schnur, Ryan Bubb and Andrew Elliott – will swim in tonight’s championship race.
In the 200 freestyle, Ohio State placed six swimmers in the eight-participant championship final: Stephen Sakaris (who posted a meet record 1:36.08), Zach Holmes, Alex Miller, Jacob Schuster, Rowan Williams and Bo Wullings. Megan Detro (1:48.10) had the fastest 200 free qualifying time among the women, and will be joined by teammate Alex Norris in the finals.
Buckeyes Keanu Stevenson, Chris Cowley and Dak Stone will swim in the championship finals of the 100 breaststroke. Three Buckeyes also advanced to the women’s 100 breast final: Angela Severn, Jackie Brousseau and Catherine Eitel.
In the 100 backstroke, Kelsey Moran (with the second-fastest preliminary time, 53.73, breaking the meet record), Emily Creran and Lauren Massey will compete in the championship finals. In the men’s 100 back, Andrew Elliott set a meet record (47.16). He and six Buckeye teammates – Andrew Spurling, Markus Sievers, Kevin Lancki, Ryan Bubb, Zach Birnbrich and Steven Zimmerman – will swim in the championship final.
Finals begin at 5 p.m. this evening, along with the three-meter diving finals for men and women. Sunday’s preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
