Buckeyes In Lead After Friday Events – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State leads a competitive field at the Ohio State Invitational after the first day of action.
“It is nice to host a big meet with good quality competition,” said Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott. “It is great to race on a big stage like this. We got off to a great start in Day One.”
Team scores after Day One: Ohio State 307; Purdue 240; Notre Dame 226; Penn State 221; Michigan State 125.
Buckeye Megan Detro won the 50 freestyle race in 22.71; teammate Michelle Williams placed seventh (23.17).
Notre Dame’s Emma Reaney captured the 200 IM in a meet record of 1:57.67. Angela Severn placed third for the Buckeyes in 1:59.91, and Emily Creran was fifth (2:01.65).
Although Purdue’s Lauren Roth had the fastest time (4:42.12) in the 500 freestyle, the Buckeyes had the second, third, fifth and seventh-place finishers in Alex Norris (4:45.30), Kelly Ann Baird (4:48.10), Natalie Nichols (4:49.65) and Kristyn Fulcher (4:53.00).
Purdue captured the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.60; Penn State was second (1:30.62) and the Ohio State quartet of Michelle Williams, Megan Detro, Jackie Brousseau and Phoebe Cater placed third in 1:31.31. In the 400 medley relay, the Ohio State relay of Kelsey Moran, Jackie Brousseau, Shannon Draves and Megan Detro won in a time of 3:37.81.
Michigan State’s Sarah Clay won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 295.45. The Buckeyes’ top finisher was Cheyenne Cousineau (268.95) in fifth place.
The Buckeyes continue to host the OSU Invitational Saturday and Sunday at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Saturday’s preliminary races begin at 10 a.m., with the finals scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission is free.
