Junior Emily Danks and the Ohio State women’s volleyball team traveled to Knoxville, Tenn., Tuesday to compete in the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament. The Round Rock, Texas, native shares some insight into the trip here.
Days 1-3
What a crazy week this has been. We found out Sunday we received a bid into the NCAA tournament and by Tuesday afternoon we were on a bus headed to Knoxville, Tenn., preparing to play Middle Tennessee State. The bus ride started with Christmas carols, movies and cheers, but after seven hours, one burger stop and the first half of the OSU v. Duke basketball game (yes, our bus had satellite), we were just so delirious and giggly we knew it was bedtime. We got up the next morning and had a delicious hotel breakfast, followed by video and practice. We then had some down time to study and rest before we had a team dinner at a local barbeque restaurant (just what this Texas native needed!), and then it was off to bed.
The past couple of days had been pretty chill, but Thursday morning we woke up in full preparation mode, ready to take on the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders. Our match began at 4:30 p.m. and, although it was not our prettiest volleyball, we came out on top in the fourth set, winning the match. We got to watch a couple sets of the Tennessee v. Duke match afterwards before coming back to our cozy hotel. While we are enjoying the win, we are ready to start preparing to take on the Tennessee Lady Volunteers tomorrow at 7 p.m. and clinch a spot in the Sweet Sixteen. Go Bucks!?
