Meet A Buckeye: Kelly Nelson – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – An All-America swimmer at Penn State, Kelly Nelson is serving as a volunteer assistant with the Buckeyes this season, assisting coaches Bill Dorenkott and Stefanie Williams.
A participant in the 2004 and 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, the butterfly specialist finished sixth in the NCAA 200 fly in 2008, earning All-America honors; she received eight honorable mention All-America citations as a four-year NCAA qualifier. The Big Ten recordholder for the 200 butterfly as a junior and senior, she set five Penn State records and was three times named Big Ten swimmer of the week during her stellar career.
Twice elected team captain, Nelson earned academic all-district honors and was an active member of Penn State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
A native of West Chester, Pa., Nelson competed as a club swimmer with the Suburban Seahawks, meeting Middle Atlantic, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals and Olympic Trials time standards.
Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and movement science from Penn State. She is currently training as a post-graduate at Ohio State for the 2012 Olympic Trials and coaching with the Ohio State Swim Club.
