Columbus, Ohio –
The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team won a spirited dual meet with Ohio 203-97 Saturday afternoon at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
“We raced well today,” said Ohio State head coach Bill Dorenkott. “The focus for a meet in mid-November is to sharpen race skills and I thought we did that well today.
Seven different Buckeyes won at least one individual race. Duplicate winners were Shannon Draves, winning the 500 free (5:01.28), 1000 free (10:16.50) and 200 butterfly (2:03.46); Kelly Ann Baird, posting top times in the 200 free (1:52.12) and 200 backstroke (2:03.33).
Ohio State swept the 3-meter diving. Bianca Alvarez placed first (400.80), followed by Cheyenne Cousineau (294.90) and Kristin Asman (278.40). In the 1-meter competition, Cousineau was first with a score of 315.45 and Asman finished second with 301.05.
In the relays, Ohio State’s unit of Kelsey Moran, Angela Severn, Michelle Williams and Megan Detro took first in the 200 medley relay (1:42.90); the team of Lauren Massey, Catherine Eitel, Darcy Fishback and Phoebe Cater placed third (1:48.01). In the 200 freestyle relay, Ohio State’s quartet of Michelle Williams, Megan Detro, Phoebe Cater and Jackie Brousseau were first in 1:34.44.
The Bobcats were winners in two events: Rachel Stearns (57.53) in the 100 backstroke; and Tori Bagan in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.83). Ohio State placed second in each of those events: 100 back – Lauren Massey (58.12); 100 breast – Ashley Vance (1:04.87);
“I’m not going to change things between now and the Pittsburgh meet. Our focus is really on February and March,” Dorenkott added. “At Pittsburgh, we’re going to go out and do a lot of racing, which will be good for our progress.”
Ohio State will return to action next weekend at the Pitt Invitational.
