Buckeyes Continue Fall Ball This Weekend – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After going 4-0 at the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic Oct. 2-3, the Ohio State softball team continues its fall schedule at home Friday and on the road Sunday. The Buckeyes will first play host to an exhibition outing vs. Ohio Dominican beginning at 5 p.m. at Buckeye Field. Ohio State will then travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a doubleheader against Miami (Ohio) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Last weekend at Fred Beekman Park, Ohio State defeated Ohio, 8-0, in five innings to begin the tournament. Senior pitcher Karisa Medrano shutout the Bobcats, while only giving up one hit in the victory. Offensively, the Buckeyes were led by junior shortstop Alicia Herron and freshman first baseman Evelyn Carrillo, who went a combined 5-for-5 at the plate with three runs and six RBI.
In the second exhibition of Day 1, Ohio State downed Toledo, 11-2. Freshman pitcher Kasie Kelly earned the win, while leadoff hitter DeeDee Hillman went 3-for-4 with three runs. Sophomore Megan Coletta drove in 3 RBI.
Weather conditions were not pleasant during the second day of the event, but Ohio State managed to tough out cold temperatures for the two victories. Ohio State won, 8-5, in six innings against Kent State in the first exhibition and rounded out the day with a 7-2 victory vs. Toledo.
Against the Golden Flashes, Medrano struck out five through five innings of work, while Hillman, Herron and Coletta combined going 6-for-10 with seven RBI and two runs. In the final exhibition, freshman pitcher Audrey Plant pitched six innings, posting five strikeouts on just three hits. Carrillo had an impressive performance at the plate, hitting two three-run homeruns that plated six runs.
