Buckeyes at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the 2010-11 Ohio State women’s tennis team finished play at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Tuesday. Paloma Escobedo and Kelsey Haviland were both bounced from prequalifying singles while Haviland and Cami Hubbs fell in the first round of qualifying doubles.
Escobedo matched her win total at the event from a year ago, this time defeating third-seeded Gabriela Mejia of Miami in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in the opening round of prequalifying singles before falling to UCLA’s Pamela Montez, 7-5, 6-4.
Haviland was bested by eighth-seeded Connie Chieh Yu Hsu of Penn in the first round, 6-3, 6-2.
She also teamed with Hubbs in qualifying doubles, but the duo was downed by the eighth-seeded tandem of Vicky Brook and Lindsay Clark from Yale, 8-4. Hubbs and Haviland dropped to qualifying consolation doubles where they downed Kentucky’s Stiles and Venter, 8-2. The duo will face the winner of the match between Shahoo and Tuohimaa from TCU and Rehberger and Vasenina of South Florida.
Following the All-American Championships, Ohio State will compete at the ITA Midwest Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich., Oct. 21-26.
