Buckeyes Undefeated in Fall Ball – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team downed two in-state opponents this weekend at home and on the road Friday and Sunday. The Buckeyes defeated Ohio Dominican in an exhibition outing Friday at Buckeye Field, while winning both games in a doubleheader at Miami Sunday in Oxford, Ohio.
The Buckeyes won 7-2 and 15-2 vs. the Panthers with a lot of underclassmen getting solid experience and playing time. Offensively, Ohio State was led by junior shortstop Alicia Herron who went 4-for-5 with a homerun and four RBI. Freshman Evelyn Carrillo drove in three batters at the plate, while senior leadoff hitter DeeDee Hillman tallied five runs. Freshman pitcher Kasie Kelly had six innings of work, striking out 11 Panthers. Senior Karisa Medrano also pitched six innings and struck out three batters.
At Miami (Ohio), the Buckeyes swept the fall doubleheader exhibition, winning, 3-1, in game one and, 4-2, in game two. Medrano pitched six innings in the first game, allowing just four hits with three strikeouts, while senior Brittany Goodchild picked up the save. Kelly threw all seven innings in the second game, limiting the RedHawks to five hits with three strikeouts.
At the plate, Herron had another big offensive day, hitting two home runs with five RBI on four hits. This fall, Herron has gone 15-for-23 with 17 RBI. Carrillo also continued her hot bat, going 4-for-6 in the two games. Hillman scored two runs on three hits vs. Miami and has tallied 13 runs in eight games this fall.
