Snyder joins Tiger Woods and world’s best June 18-21 at Bethpage in New York
COLUMBUS, Ohio Vaughn Snyder, who recently concluded his career with the Ohio State men’s golf team, qualified for the 2009 U.S. Open Championship Monday. The U.S. Open will be played at the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., June 18-21.
Snyder, from Massillon, Ohio, grabbed one of the remaining available spots in the field by advancing past sectional qualifying with a 36-hole total of 6-under 136 (67-69) at NCR Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. Snyder will be the only current or former Buckeye in the field and one of 12 amateurs competing.
Snyder was a PING All-Midwest Region awardwinner and a Second Team All-Big Ten selection this season. He finished second on the team with 73.57 stroke average and played in all 37 rounds.
Snyder led the Buckeyes with five rounds in the 60’s and 10 rounds under par. He won two tournaments in the fall (Memphis Invitational and Turtle Bay Resort Intercollegiate) and recorded the lowest round of the season for Ohio State with a 5-under 66.
