Sophomore qualifies for semifinals of 100m hurdles Friday; 4x400m concludes memorable season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Sophomore Letecia Wright qualified for the 100m hurdle semifinals and the 4x400m relay team put a wrap on an impressive outdoor campaign as the Ohio State women’s track and field team competed on day two at the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Championships Thursday.
Wright secured her place in the 100m hurdle semifinals with a time of 13.60. Michigan senior Tiffany Ofili and Texas A&M sophomore Gabby Mayo ran identical times of 13.07 to lead the field.
The 4x400m relay team of Latoya Sanderson, Ashley Caldwell, Ayrizanna Favours and Shaniqua McGinnis concluded its memorable season in the preliminary round. The Big Ten Champions ran the third-best time in school history, finishing 11th in 3:35.04 Ohio State’s season-best time came two weeks ago at the Mideast Championships, a third-place run of 3:33.96. Favours, a team leader and member of the Buckeyes’ 2008 sixth-place finish in the 4×400, closes her memorable career with the Scarlet and Gray, while Sanderson, Caldwell and McGinnis return next season.
Wright will hit the track at approximately 9:00 p.m. ET Friday in the semifinals of the 100m hurdles.
