WLAX: Buckeyes Down Cincinnati 20-8 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState women’s lacrosse team won its third consecutive game, defeating Cincinnati, 20-8, Wednesday evening in crisp conditions at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
OhioState, which cracked the national rankings this week at No. 18, traded goals with the Bearcats in the early going but pulled ahead, 6-4, by halftime. The Buckeyes went on to score 11 of the first 12 goals of the second half.
Maghan Beaudrault with seven goals tied the OhioState single-game record for goals. Jayme Beard (3), Kelly Haggerty (2) and Alayna Markwordt (2) each had multiple goals for the Buckeyes. Rachel Hawes, Gabby Capuzzi, Lauren Sterner, Maggie Smith and Jacqueline Orona each scored one goal for OSU. Kristen Gilwee had five saves in goal; Annie Carruthers had two saves for the Buckeyes.
“We’re very happy with the win, especially the way we played the second half,” said OhioState coach Sue Stimmel. “We started slowly; we’ll have to fix that before we play at Louisville Saturday. Now that we’re a ranked team, we are more of a target. It will be important to play consistently and put together a whole game.”
OhioState, now 5-1, returns to action Saturday at Louisville for a 1 p.m. match. Cincinnati’s record drops to 4-2.
