Verhoff, Lampson Earn Postseason Men’s Soccer Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Postseason honors are starting to roll in for members of the Big Ten Champion men’s soccer team this week. Doug Verhoff was named a third team All-America by College Soccer News, while rookie Matt Lampson earned Soccer America All-Freshman Second Team honors.
Verhoff, a senior captain, wrapped up his career with the Buckeyes as the leader of the second winningest class in program history with 49 wins. He was tabbed the Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Year, as well as first team all-conference, en route to helping capture the both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships. The defensive MVP of the Big Ten Tournament, he anchored the defense that allowed the fewest goals in the Big Ten (16) all season.
Of those 16 goals allowed, Lampson gave up just 13 in 17 games in goal. The Big Ten co-Freshman of the Year finished the season second in the Ohio State single-season record books with a 0.73 goals-against average – the lowest since 1986 and Dave Sheer’s 0.70 effort. The Hilliard, Ohio, native also wrapped up 2009 fourth in program history for shutouts in a season, tallying nine. A three-time conference defensive player of the week, Lampson earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors, becoming just the second OSU rookie to earn either a First or Second Team nod.
