Megan Detro is Big Ten’s Swimmer of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A three-win effort last week in Ohio State’s 128-68 win over Cleveland State has earned Ohio State freshman Megan Detro the Big Ten Conference’s Swimmer of the Week award this week. The win improved the Buckeyes’ record to 2-0 this season.
Detro, from Carmel, Ind., and Carmel High School, picked up her first win of the meet in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:51.59, before adding a win in the 100 backstroke (58.30) during the second half of the meet. Detro also contributed to the winning 200 medley relay team, which turned in a time of 1:48.35 to extend the overall lead for the Scarlet and Gray.
Ohio State’s first honoree of the conference’s weekly award this season, Detro owns the Buckeyes’ top times this season in both the 50 free (23.34) and the 100 free (50.81).
Detro and the Ohio State women’s and men’s swimming and diving programs will host their annual Ohio State Swimming & Diving Invite Friday through Sunday, Dec. 4-6, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Swimmers and divers from 15 different schools will be competing at this year’s event, which is run in the order that NCAA and conference championships are contested. Admission is free.
